E-leaflets are our future

At meetings in 2012 and 2013 it became clear that the possibilities of electronic labelling (e-labelling) are sparking the EMA's interest (and QRD's). Although paper information (and its digital equivalents, PDF and Word documents) will be around for a good while yet, e-labelling (perhaps linked to machine codes printed on boxes) theoretically offers great benefits in allowing both simplification (eg personalised details suited to sex and age) and more detail (eg about correct use of devices, or interactions with concurrent medicines). There is excitement, but little clarity about how this might all be achieved.
